UFC 240: Holloway vs. Edgar is an upcoming mixed martial arts event produced by the Ultimate Fighting Championship that is planned to take place on July 27, 2019 at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
Any attempt to choose the most dominant active fighter in mixed martial arts inevitably leads to a choice between two champions: Jon Jones or Amanda Nunes.
Any discussion of the greatest fighters in MMA history must include Jones and Nunes as well. They simply have been too good for too long — and beaten too many fellow giants of the sport — to be left out.
When they fight on the same card Sunday (AEST) in Las Vegas, the joint showcase provides an opportunity for fans to see greatness at its possible peak. UFC 239 is also another chance to see whether Jones or Nunes will finally fall from the perches they have occupied for so long atop MMA.
UFC 239 is set to provide stunning entertainment for fans around the world with two world title belts up for grabs on the night.
Jon Jones will be challenged by Thiago Santos for the Light Heavyweight Championship while Amanda Nunes will hope to defend her Women’s Bantamweight Championship against Holly Holm.
Jones remains undefeated since his only professional loss in December 2009 and will hope to hang on to his title when he steps into the Octagon with Santos.
Jon Jones, the UFC’s light heavyweight champion, is a big betting favorite vs. Thiago Santos, and there’s a good reason for that. He won his title last December with a third-round TKO of Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 232 and then defended it with a dominant decision versus Anthony Smith in UFC 235. Now, Jones faces Santos in Saturday’s main event of UFC 239 in a fight you can live stream on ESPN+, and it could be one heck of a showdown.
Santos, though, has reason to hope. He’s won three-straight by knockout, and it seems possible he could catch Jones (24-1) by surprise (especially considering Jones has talked about feeling concerned about being “too comfortable”). If Santos (21-6) is mentally strong enough to be aggressive and pressure Jones, there’s a chance he could have success.
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) — in the throes of “International Fight Week” — has invited the stars of its next three pay-per-view (PPV) events to “Sin City” to promote their upcoming fights.
Jon Jones might be the greatest male fighter in the history of mixed martial artist. Amanda Nunes might be the greatest female fighter ever. Both will be in action on Saturday night at UFC 239 in Las Vegas. The main card is on pay-per-view, beginning at 10 p.m. ET and available exclusively through ESPN+. The prelims are on ESPN and ESPN Deportes at 8 p.m., with early prelims on ESPN+ and UFC Fight Pass beginning at 6:15.
Jones (24-1, 1 NC) defends his light heavyweight championship in the main event against Thiago Silva, a 21-6 Brazilian who has won eight of his last nine fights, with all but one of those wins coming by KO/TKO.
